BIO: Jared Golden is a Democrat representing Maine’s 2nd congressional district. The veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan was sworn into office on Jan. 3, 2019.
Golden was inspired to join the Marines after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He served as an infantryman during his time in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
After returning home, Golden completed a political science degree at Bates College. He ended up working for Republican Sen. Susan Collins, serving as a staff member on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees.
The experience helped solidify Golden’s own political beliefs and made him realize that he identified as a Democrat. As a member of the Maine House of Representatives, Golden passed legislation to help homeless veterans become self-sufficient again, among other legislative accomplishments.
