BIO: Dan Crenshaw is a Republican representing Texas’ 2nd congressional district. The former Navy SEAL was sworn into office on Jan. 3, 2019.
Crenshaw got his bachelor’s degree at Tufts University and later earned a master’s degree in public administration at Harvard University. He began his decade-long military career with SEAL Team Three in Iraq, the first of his five deployments.
In 2012, Crenshaw was struck by an IED blast while on his third deployment in Afghanistan. The explosion destroyed his right eye and severely damaged his left eye. He would eventually regain sight in his left eye and still wears an eyepatch over his right eye socket.
After that incident, he completed two more deployments in the Middle East and South Korea before being medically retired in 2016.
